SYG National Council
The Scottish Young Greens National Council is the group that performs the day-to-day running of the SYG. They meet monthly, and decide as a group on various things - some are constitutional powers, like creating or managing Local Area Groups, and some are more informal, like choosing to participate in events as an organisation or just checking in on everyone’s wellbeing! The National Council is led by the two Co-convenor, who chair Council meetings, lead the SYG as a whole, and help to organise and support the rest of Council.
Council is elected annually at SYG’s Annual General Meeting and nominations are open to any young Scottish Green Party members who wish to put themselves forward - not just those who have been previously involved with SYG!
Each member of National Council has their own role, but that doesn’t mean they can only do what their role implies - Council members are free to work on projects outside of their usual prerogative, with a lot of the work done being collaborative, both when the project involves more than one member’s role and when another member is just interested in something someone else is working on! There are also two Ordinary Members, who are full voting members of Council and are free to work on whatever projects interest them. Local Area Groups can send two representatives to Council (usually their organisers or co-convenors) who can attend meetings and vote to represent the views of their local group.
