Blah blah blah | September Newsletter

In the month that people panic-bought petrol and the UK Labour Party voted against proportional representation 🙄 September also saw the German Greens win 118 Bundestag seats, whilst Greta called out World Leaders at the Youth4Climate Summit in Milan 👏

This is not about some expensive, politically correct, green act of bunny hugging.

Build back better, blah blah blah. Green economy, blah blah blah. Net zero by 2050, blah blah blah. Climate neutral, blah blah blah.

This is all we hear from our so-called leaders. Words that sound great, but so far have led to no action.

Ahhh September… Here’s the latest from the SYG-sphere this month!

STILL TO COME…
October is Black History Month

In advance of the month ahead - Happy Black History Month! ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

In SYG, we're firmly committed to intersectionality and solidarity. We recognise that the people who are hit hardest by climate change and capitalism are Black, Indigenous, Asian, and other colonised people, and we know that we need to do more to uplift these voices. This year we want to use our platforms throughout October, to highlight some amazing young Black climate activists and Black-led campaigns. From Ugandan school strikers, to Nigerian educators, to Green New Deal campaigners in London, our socials will be sharing the spotlight on on some truly inspiring people - you'll want to keep an eye out for this! 👀

We encourage everyone to check out the official programme for Black History Month Scotland and check out a couple of events! We're especially looking forward to this panel on climate change, sustainability, and race.

— Edan Hughes, EDI Officer

With that, we bid you adieu and wish you a frightfully fruitful October 👋 Your next issue ‘falls’ on Halloween/A.K.A extra-hour-in-bed-day 🎃🕚

Be yourself and stay safe 💚
